Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign

5200 Las Vegas Blvd S

The “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign was constructed on the Strip in 1959. It was designed by a commercial artist by the name of Betty Willis. Supposedly, she received $4,000 payment for the design.

The back of the sign reads “Drive Carefully” and “Come Back Soon”. The circles surrounding the letters in “Welcome” resemble silver dollars.

The sign sits as a welcome to travelers entering the Las Vegas Blvd. The sign is situated in the middle of the center island of Las Vegas Boulevard, just to the south of the Strip.

In March of 2007, a replica was constructed that is larger than the original version. It is installed on Boulder Highway near Harmon Avenue.

Neither the original, nor the copycat sign, actually reside in the city of Las Vegas. No one seems to notice or care. Neither sign marks the border of Las Vegas, but has become a popular signature icon of Las Vegas.
